Among the countless soap operas to credit Elon Musk since the acquisition of Twitter: the display of article titles on the platform.
Remember. In August 2023, Elon Musk expressed his desire to see the titles of articles shared on the X.com platform (formerly Twitter) disappear. The idea was then to leave only the illustrative image when sharing a link, with only the website concerned. An idea which then came to fruition during the month of October.
The return of the titles, but…
And you will probably have guessed it, a few weeks later, Elon Musk published a new message on his network, to announce that in a future update, the platform would once again automatically generate the titles of a publication during ‘a URL sharing.
This has been done for a few hours now, since shared articles now display the title of the linked article (or web page)… but in a very reduced format.
…it’s still not that
In 2024, the preview of an external link on X.com is materialized by white text in a black frame, embedded in the lower left corner of the image.
It replaces the name of the linked website, which has been moved to a new line, located between the link preview and the buttons for replying, reposting and liking.
Currently, this change has only been observed on the web version of the X.com network, but the latter still seems to be being deployed according to different regions of the globe.
Previously, the links shared on Twitter/X.com allowing you to view the title of the article, as well as the first lines of the latter. At the time, Elon Musk wanted to reduce the focus on outbound links, saying the best thing to do was to publish long-form content directly to the platform.
