Artificial intelligence at the service of the “employee experience”, a tool that is spreading in companies

An algorithm stronger than a suggestion box? In the midst of a hospital crisis, the staff of the Quinze-Vingts national ophthalmology hospital center (Paris) were invited to share their ideas for improving their working conditions. Participants were able to submit their contributions not on a piece of paper, but on a platform deployed by the start-up Better World, which specializes in data collection and analysis.

With the aim of improving the quality of life at work, we have adapted this tool, initially intended to measure the satisfaction of our patients, in order to get feedback from all of our staff.”, says Nils Avanturier, director of human resources and deputy general manager of the hospital. Anonymous or not, the contributions are then analyzed by an artificial intelligence tool, which highlights the themes that come up most often.

“Anyone can make suggestions”

Deployed for a few months in the establishment, the solution was presented during the day organized by the French Hospital Federation in Ile-de-France on June 16th. “Anyone can make suggestions, caregivers and non-caregiversargues Nils Avanturier. This allows us to collect and process a mass of data that is much greater than the satisfaction questionnaire we did every two years with staff. »

Following the first phase of deployment, end of 2021, the item “sports activities” emergedunderlines the deputy director general of the establishment. We therefore declined in our project to establish a gym for our staff ». Unsurprisingly, there were also contributions on “everything that was organization”, as well as ergonomics and the organization of working time. As a solution, the establishment worked on a better distribution of tasks between doctors and orthoptists.

However, this tool is not necessarily to the liking of all trade unions. Federal Secretary SUD Social Health, François Ringoot sees in the experiment carried out at the Quinze-Vingts hospital a way for the management to hide behind its little finger: “We change the tools, but the principle always remains the same: we pretend to listen to the employees. »

The Parisian hospital is far from being the only employer to bet on technological innovation to try to improve the quality of life at work for its employees. According to the 2022 Employee Experience Barometer published by the Parlons RH agency, the proportion of companies surveyed that set up a « approach around the employee experience » has risen from 5% to 10% since 2020. A new concept in vogue with HRDs, “employee experience” is at the heart of a flourishing market of solutions promising to improve employee well-being.
