As Holy Kings – Carinthian children sing for the Pope in St. Peter’s Basilica

How exciting! Star singers from Neuhaus are looking forward to January 1st, because that’s when they not only get to know Pope Francis, but can even sing for him during mass.

The excitement is great: Samuel, Jana, Emma and Luzia from Neuhaus, as three kings and star bearers, are allowed to attend the papal mass in St. Peter’s Basilica on January 1st. The four represent the Austrian star singer campaign of the Catholic Young Group. Traveling to Rome as delegates “We are there together with five other delegations from Europe. The children can take part in mass with Pope Francis on January 1st,” says Irina Kolland, area manager of the young church. On Saturday, the young quartet, accompanied by diocesan youth pastor Jakob Mokoru, visited sights in Rome. The young people also climbed the 551 steps to the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica. Four Carinthian children sing for the Pope Luzia (9): “The view up there is a dream.” On Saturday afternoon, Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar made an appearance with the papal Swiss Guard. Samuel: “It was exciting to sing in the Vatican!” Star singer Jana dutifully recited her text: “We follow the star to bring blessings, to sing about peace.” Two songs were also performed. Jana (10): “The nice thing about star singing is that money is raised for poor countries.” All four can hardly wait to meet Pope Francis on Monday.
