Currently playing Sans Répite on Netflix, Franck Gastambide filmed last year under the direction of Guillaume Canet in the highly anticipated Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Empire, which he mentioned on our microphone.
This will be the event of the beginning of 2023: the release of a new Asterix and Obelix in live action, more than 10 years after the last live adaptation to date, Asterix and Obelix: In the service of Her Majesty. Signed Guillaume Canet, who also lends his features to the little mustachioed Gaul, this new film will transport the spectators to the Middle Kingdom.
And for the occasion, the actor-director has assembled a 5-star cast among which we find, among many others, his relatives Marion Cotillard (Cléopâtre) and Gilles Lellouche (Obélix) but also Franck Gastambide, hired to play Barbe Rousse and with whom Canet had never collaborated before.
Asked by us about this exceptional experience, the one who currently shines in Without respite on Netflix assured:
First, I was very flattered that Guillaume Canet offered me this. I wasn’t completely sure that Guillaume knew who I was or that he knew what I was doing, and in fact I was totally wrong about him.
And to clarify:I play the leader of the pirates and it’s an incredible adventure. I was already very impressed by Guillaume Canet’s work but I am even more so since I saw this huge boat that he piloted for months and months. I’m very flattered to be offered this and to be in the middle of this huge cast.”
Franck Gastambide then concluded on an exciting note for all fans of the most famous Gaulish duo: “I can’t wait to see but the noises from the hallway of the editing rooms are very, very positive.” To be confirmed on February 1, 2023!
