At Facebook, providers lose their contract on a coin toss

Several dozen employees would have been arbitrarily dismissed by an algorithm.

Automation seems to have no limits for Meta, which would manage its human resources in the same way as its various social networks.

Sixty employees dismissed by an algorithm without any other explanation

Dozens of employees of the Accenture company would have had the painful experience of it a few days ago. We learn that the employees of this company supervising the moderation teams for the social network Facebook were fired at lightning speed by their employer. According to them, the dismissal was done in just a few minutes via a video call organized in disaster by representatives of Accenture.

During this virtual meeting, no explanation was given to the employees as to the reason for their dismissal. They were just told that their profile had not been chosen based on their performance, but had simply been selected randomly by an algorithm.

No recourse was suggested, but Accenture did offer those affected the opportunity to reapply in the near future or to interview for a new job with the company.

Meta faces declining revenue as the metaverse skates

Contacted, Accenture categorically denies any downsizing in its workforce. Meta, Facebook’s parent company, declined to comment on the matter.

The time is nevertheless serious for the company of Mark Zuckerberg which is going through a stormy year 2022. Facebook experienced its first drop in users at the start of the year, and just a few days ago, the Meta group announced slightly lower sales and plummeting profits of 36%. In addition, the stock market and the valuation of the company have fallen by half since the beginning of the year.

Meta’s plans for the metaverse have also been thwarted by the economic crisis. The group invests nearly 10 billion dollars per year on the subject for an almost zero return on investment and does not foresee a reversal of this trend for ten years.

Meta has already announced a drastic reduction in hiring as well as a halt to many projects, but no direct layoffs. However, internally, some fear an imminent reduction in the workforce of around 10%.
