At level crossing – articulated lorry hit by train: nobody injured

In Hofstätten an der Raab, the fire brigade had to respond to a train accident today: A passenger train heading towards Graz and passing the level crossing with a traffic light hit a truck whose driver was unable to leave the spot quickly enough. He had previously demolished the traffic light.

According to the Hofstätten fire brigade, a semi-trailer tried to turn around on the railway crossing at around 6:10 p.m. today. On the first attempt, he collided with the traffic lights and destroyed them. On the second attempt, he missed an approaching passenger train. This collided with the trailer. Luck in disguise: None of the 19 passengers on the train were injured in the collision. The truck driver also survived the accident unscathed; but not his vehicle. After the scene of the accident had been properly secured and illuminated by the fire brigade, the passengers were transported to Gleisdorf station. The truck was recovered by the railway transfer. The Hofstätten fire brigade with 18 men, the Red Cross, the police and the ÖBB operations management were in action.
