At the Agricultural Show, Anne Hidalgo calls for a freeze on energy prices

During her visit to the Agriculture Fair, the Socialist candidate called for the blocking of energy prices for individuals and farmers, and “a European discussion” to avoid possible shortages linked to the consequences of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. ,

Socialist candidate Anne Hidalgo called on Monday for the blocking of energy prices for individuals and farmers, and “a European discussion” to avoid possible shortages linked to the consequences of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, during her visit to the fair in Agriculture. “It is urgent that there is an anticipation of these price developments, in particular of energy, with a blocking of these prices precisely to allow our fellow citizens, and of course the farmers, to be able to pass the cape of this war which for the moment is rather showing signs of duration,” she told the press.

Anne Hidalgo recalled having asked for a long time, well before the Ukrainian crisis, to “play on VAT to contain the prices of gasoline, energy and electricity”. For her, “the increase in prices and the blockages with regard to the import and export (of products to or from Russia, editor’s note) will also lead to problems in the supply of raw materials” . “There too, there must be a European discussion,” she insisted. “In this war, one of the good news, if I can put it that way, is that this European union is reacting in a united, grouped, forceful way. In this united way, there must also be measures that are taken to allow supplies and to overcome these shortages, in particular in the supply of the sectors and in particular of breeding”, she added.

“The French political debate must also be able to live”

The candidate welcomed the meeting scheduled for the afternoon at Matignon with the presidential candidates around the Ukrainian situation. “I will express a position of responsibility in the French political debate, in search of national and European unity”, because “it is not a question of weakening neither our country nor the European position”. “But the French political debate must also be able to live”, insisted Anne Hidalgo, affirming that she wanted to obtain “guarantees” so that it could take place, because “we have differences of opinion on economic and social questions, on climate issues”.

“If we do not pose the challenges of the coming years, if we miss this election, well we will have a situation of permanent social conflict at the end of this crisis”, she warned. The candidate also condemned “the violence that took place yesterday (Sunday) against the FNSEA stand”, by the Extinction Rebellion movement, and wished to register “in opposition to this agribashing”.
