At the last minute – family and three dogs rescued from fire hell

Dramatic scenes took place on the night from Friday to Saturday in the Vorarlberg community of Koblach. After a fire broke out in a single-family home, a 13-year-old was able to escape the building himself while his mother, sister and three family dogs were trapped in the house.

On Friday evening at 10:34 p.m., the Götzis police station was informed by the Vorarlberg state control center about a fire in a residential building. The initial information: Two people would still be in the property. The police patrol arrived at the scene of the fire at 10:37 p.m., where they noticed a 13-year-old at the bedroom window on the first floor. The girl had previously discovered the fire and warned her brother of the same age by telephone. Escape via the staircase was already impossible. So he was still able to leave the house, while for the teenager it was already impossible to escape via the heavily smoke-filled staircase. Initial contact with the mother, who was also believed to be on the upper floor of the house, could not be established. The Koblach fire department, which arrived with 35 Florianis, was able to detect a fire in the living room on the ground floor, which made it impossible to enter the house for the time being. Mother rescued by special police unit The 13-year-old was finally rescued from the object by relatives present with the help of a table. A little later, the children’s mother also made her presence felt at her bedroom window on the first floor. She was literally rescued at the last minute from the already heavily smoked building through a window by the officers of the Vorarlberg Rapid Reaction Force Police Readiness Unit, who had arrived in the meantime, with the help of a ladder they had brought with them. Family in the hospital – dogs taken to veterinary clinic The mother suffered severely, her two children slight smoke poisoning. All three were admitted to the Feldkirch State Hospital. The officers assigned to the emergency unit were also examined in Feldkirch for possible smoke poisoning, but are doing well. The fire brigade was finally able to quickly extinguish the fire in the living room area and also rescue the three family dogs from the house. The dogs were hospitalized in a veterinary clinic. The State Criminal Police Office is investigating. Due to the heat and the strong smoke fumes, all of the furniture in the house was damaged or destroyed. According to police, the property is uninhabitable. The cause of the fire is still completely unclear; the investigation is being carried out by the State Criminal Police Office.
