At the Paris Council, deleterious atmosphere and heated exchanges around Anne Hidalgo’s controversial trip

Palpable tension at the Paris Council this Tuesday. The capital’s right-wing elected officials intend to hold Mayor Anne Hidalgo accountable, in the eye of the storm since her controversial trip to New Caledonia and Polynesia where personal and professional reasons mixed.

A three-week getaway, still on everyone’s minds, especially in that of Rachida Dati. The mayor of the 7th arrondissement shot her first arrow at the beginning of the afternoon. While she criticized last year’s budget, described as insincere, she took the opportunity to denounce the supposed opacity of Anne Hidalgo’s trip to the Pacific.

Anne Hidalgo denounces the “Dati show”

“There is, in your attitude, as you demonstrate at each Paris Council, your casualness. It is the same which costs you very dearly, so to speak, in the context of your alibi trip in Tahiti, from which we learned again this (Tuesday) morning that you benefited from a helicopter even though you made people believe that you were cycling on a Parisian cycle path”, denounced the opponent of the mayor from Paris.

Rachida Dati is therefore requesting all the supporting documents for this trip. For her part, Anne Hidalgo firmly denies having taken any helicopter and denounces the “Dati show”. “Your insinuations, your permanent attacks… You summoned the press so that there would be a show. But the Dati show has calmed down a little because the beauty of democracy is that there is differences and projects that confront each other democratically and then the voters decide. In this case, he has been deciding outside of what you are proposing to them for 20 years,” thundered Anne Hidalgo.
