At what time should you stop snacking? A study answers: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

Nibble when you hold us! A study conducted in 2017 by the Research Center for the Study and Observation of Living Conditions (Crédoc) revealed that eating between meals is an increasingly common habit in the daily lives of the French. Indeed, 38% of them admitted to having already given in to snacking. But then how can we limit this taste pleasure to best protect our body? According to the Zoe Predict study, carried out by researchers at the School of Life Course & Population Sciences in London, there is a snack time that is decisive for health.

Snacking: the time to absolutely avoid!

The results of this study published in the European Journal of Nutrition, revealed that the time of snacking can be decisive for health. The analysis showed that after 9 p.m., this small pleasure was associated with worse blood markers than all other snacking hours. Indeed, people who snack at this time tend to eat energy-dense foods, rich in fats and sugars such as sweets or confectionery. So, when snacking after 9 p.m., keep in mind that the timing is not ideal for your health and is best avoided.

Snacking is not prohibited, as long as you focus on healthy foods

In this study, Dr. Sarah Berry, Chief Scientist at Zoe explains, in a press releasethat “Considering that 95% of us snack and almost a quarter of our calories come from snacks, replacing unhealthy snacks like biscuits, chips and cakes with healthy snacks like the fruits and nuts is a very simple way to improve your health.” As you will have understood, what you consume when you snack is decisive for your overall well-being.

And yes ! According to Dr. Sarah Berry, a nutrition specialist, eating between meals is not bad, as long as they are healthy snacks. People who snack on good quality foods such as fresh fruit or dried fruit are more likely to have a healthy weight than those who don’t snack at all or who snack on snacks high in fat and sugar.

If you are used to snacking and want to preserve your health, remember to avoid snacking after 9 p.m. as much as possible but also to eat healthy snacks.
