Jean-Jacques Savin had, at the age of 75, started on January 2 a crossing of the Atlantic by rowing from Portugal. He had in the night from Thursday to Friday triggered his two distress beacons off the Azores. His lifeless body was found this Saturday in his boat

During the night of Thursday to Friday, Jean-Jacques Savin, domiciled in Arès in the Arcachon basin, had triggered his two distress beacons aboard his canoe L’Audacieux, while he was heading for the Azores. This man who had celebrated his 75th birthday on January 14, was trying to row across the Atlantic from Portugal.

His boat had been spotted yesterday by the Portuguese Navy rescue team. But no diver had been able to get on board. This Saturday, the weather was better and the rescuers were able to visit the returned boat. It was inside the cabin that they found the lifeless body of Jean-Jacques Savin.
