World number one Carlos Alcaraz was unable to complete his quarterfinals in Paris against Holger Rune due to a suspected abdominal muscle injury.

At the time of his surrender, Alcaraz was 3: 6, 6: 6 (1: 3) behind. The 19-year-old Spaniard conceded a mini-break with a return runes, which he let pass without a fight, and then went to the net to congratulate the 6-day older Dane on reaching the semi-finals.

The reason for his resignation was not initially known, but Alcaraz had had his abdominal muscles massaged when he changed sides.

Rune again against Auger-Aliassime

This puts Rune in the semi-finals, where he meets Félix Auger-Aliassime, just like in the Basel final. The Canadian showed no problems in the 6-1, 6-4 win over Frances Tiafoe (USA) and clinched his 16th win in a row.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic (SRB) also made it easily into the semi-finals thanks to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Italian Lorenzo Musetti. There he meets the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, who defeated Tommy Paul (USA) 6-2, 6-4.
