The South Tyrolean Jannik Sinner also showed his class in the final in Miami and lifted his third trophy of the current year after a 6:3, 6:1 win over Grigor Dimitrov.
Grigor Dimitrov (ATP 12) was able to eliminate Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals in Miami in two clear sets. However, the Bulgarian was unable to compete against Jannik Sinner in the game for tournament victory. And so the victorious South Tyrolean will replace Alcaraz as world number 2 in the rankings from Monday.
The current Australian Open champion succeeded against Dimitrov in the 4th meeting for the 3rd time. The 6:3, 6:1 represents a largely one-sided affair. In the second round, Sinner finally broke his challenger’s resistance with the break to make it 3-1. A little later he used his first match point with a backhand winner.
Dominant across the board
The 22-year-old from the ski resort of San Candido has an outstanding season record of 22:1 wins. After only having to bow to Alcaraz in the semi-finals of Indian Wells, he has already won his third tournament victory in 2024.
In his last 4 games at the southern tip of Florida, Sinner only had to give up 20 games.
