Attack on Brigitte Macron’s grand-nephew: the trial has opened

Ihe trial of the three men suspected of assaulting Brigitte Macron’s grand-nephew, Jean-Baptiste Trogneux, on the sidelines of an undeclared demonstration against pension reform, opened on Monday, June 5, in Amiens. The three defendants, who appear in pre-trial detention, arrived around 2 p.m. in an already full room.

Aged 20, 22 and 34, they were initially to be tried in immediate appearance on May 17, two days after the events, for violence in a meeting, but their lawyers had asked for more time to prepare their defense.

The chocolate factory monitored at each event

Jean-Baptiste Trogneux, 30 and owner of the famous chocolate factory founded by Brigitte Macron’s great-grandfather, is absent from the hearing. According to his father, Jean-Alexandre, he was molested on May 15 in front of his home, located above his business in Amiens, by several people who took part in an undeclared demonstration. From a police source, he received four days of total incapacity for work (ITT).

He wanted to “defend the window of his store, already targeted several times,” says Franck Delahousse. The chocolate factory has been under police surveillance at every protest in recent weeks.

Among the defendants, already convicted of violence and assault, the youngest, Florian C., is illiterate, the oldest, Yoan L., is under curatorship. Four other people arrested in this case were released after their custody. A 16-year-old girl, also prosecuted, must be tried later by a juvenile judge.

As soon as the facts were revealed, voices on the left and on the right were alarmed at the violence of the political debate, Emmanuel Macron denouncing “unbearable and unspeakable acts”. Brigitte Macron indignant at the “cowardice” of the authors.
