Attacks in Mali and Burkina Faso leave 21 dead, dozens injured


BAMAKO/OUAGADOUGOU (Reuters) – Fifteen soldiers and six civilians were killed on Sunday in attacks in Mali and Burkina Faso, where jihadist groups operate, military and security sources said.

The Malian army reported that suicide bombers burst into three military camps in the center of the country before dawn driving vehicles loaded with explosives. Six people were killed and 15 others injured in a camp; five people were injured at two other locations.

In neighboring Burkina Faso, armed assailants simultaneously attacked a detachment of the Gaskinde army and another Pobe-Mengao in the early hours of the day, killing nine soldiers and six civilians, the army said in a statement. Thirty people were injured in total.
