While the first council of ministers of Gabriel Attal’s government will take place this Friday at 11 a.m., several transfers of power will take place this morning. Among the most anticipated, that of Catherine Vautrin, president of Grand Reims, who is recovering a super-ministry bringing together Labor, Health and Solidarity.

The day after the announcement of part of Gabriel Attal’s new government, a first council of ministers is organized this Friday morning at 11 a.m. But before that, several transfers of power are planned. At 10 a.m., Stéphane Séjourné will officially take over from Catherine Colonna at the Quai d’Orsay. At the same time, Olivier Dussopt will give the keys to the Ministry of Labor to Catherine Vautrin. At 63, the president of Greater Reims, former minister of Jacques Chirac, takes the head of a super ministry.

Catherine Vautrin alone inherits the portfolios of three ministers of the Borne government: Labor, which was in the hands of Olivier Dussopt, Health, held until now by Agnès Firmin Le Bodo, and Solidarity managed by Aurore Bergé. An appointment to an XXL-sized ministry which is eminently political.

In all, more than 40 billion budget

In May 2022, Emmanuel Macron proposed Matignon to the president of Grand Reims before withdrawing under pressure from his left wing in favor of Elisabeth Borne. At the time, Catherine Vautrin was notably criticized for her commitment against marriage for all.

This time, this close friend of Nicolas Sarkozy, former minister under Jacques Chirac, has her revenge. Under her responsibility now, more than 22 billion euros in credits for Labor, around 19 billion for Health and Solidarity, according to figures for 2023. Finally, Catherine Vautrin will have to tackle multiple challenges, such as hospital crisis, the unemployment insurance reform or even the euthanasia bill, which could put his convictions to the test.
