Attention drivers! – New regulation: This applies to the Pickerl from May 20th

In the future, there will be a new regulation for the sticker, i.e. the appraisal according to §57a: From May 20th, how much fuel or diesel the car actually used will be read out for the appraisal. The data is sent to the Ministry of the Environment and Climate and forwarded to the European Environment Agency.

Diesel, petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars as well as light trucks with first registration from January 1, 2021 and emission class “6d” or “6e” (from autumn 2023) are affected. The readout runs via a software interface in the vehicle. This is intended to determine whether the consumption values ​​measured during vehicle approval are being met. The ARBÖ criticizes the lack of data protection. “For the pure collection of consumption data for each vehicle model, it would have been sufficient to transmit the first eleven digits of a chassis number,” it said in a broadcast. However, this is not the case, which makes anonymization impossible. Anyone who finds this too sensitive can put it on record before the investigation: The ÖAMTC draws attention to the fact that the reading of the data can also be refused. “A refusal has no effect on the §57a assessment – you still get a sticker,” says the club. According to information from the mobility club, the data for diesel, petrol and hybrid vehicles show only minor deviations. These can be explained by different operating conditions – for example trailer operation, mountain driving or personal driving style. The results for plug-in hybrid vehicles suggest that they are not regularly charged at the socket as planned.
