The developers of the excellent game Alan Wake 2 have added an option to reduce certain effects that cause startles. Excellent news for those who are a little too scared.
In 2023, several years after a first opus which had already made a strong impression, Remedy launched Alan Wake 2. And, without a Baldur’s Gate 3 impeccable, this sequel would certainly have been crowned game of the year at The Game Awards ceremony. In the eyes of many, this narrative action game is a memorable experience. However, it can put aside those who are not comfortable with more horrific sequences.
But the developers have just thought of them. As Eurogamer indicates in an article published on February 1, Alan Wake 2 has received an update, the first in 2024, which incorporates an option highly requested by the community. It consists of reducing the effect of certain bursts (jump scares), allowing the most fearful to be a little less affected by moments of high tension – something the game does not lack, recalls this video of more than 10 minutes.

The patch note, accessible on the official website, states: “ The update adds a much-requested option to reduce horror-related flash effects. » More concretely, in the options, we will be free to choose the intensity parameter of the visual and audible flashes, between “Normal” and “Low”. In this way, players, less comfortable with the idea of jumping at any time, will be able to engage more easily in Alan Wake 2.
Not to mention the notion of fear, specific to each person, there is also the question of sensitivity to flashes of light, before which we are not all equal either. This hand extended by Remedy is to be applauded, since it will allow more people to discover Alan Wake 2one of the best titles released in recent years.
This update, deployed on all versions ofAlan Wake 2 (PC, PS5 and Xbox Series), also offers a chapter selection functionality (to redo a mission already completed, whenever you want). A godsend for reliving the musical sequence, already cult, or for picking up certain objects that we might have missed. Finally, fixes and optimizations have been applied to remove certain bugs and refine visual and technical performance. We recall thatAlan Wake 2 will receive two expansions in the coming months.
