A portable console without integrated screen? A miracle made possible by the magic of augmented reality glasses from Tecno Mobile.
Better known – and still – for its smartphones, the Chinese company Tecno Mobile has decided to launch into a new market… the decidedly very dynamic one of the portable console!
To do this, Tecno Mobile trusted AMD – and its Ryzen 7 8840HS – but also tried to show originality on the display side by turning to AR glasses rather than a classic panel.
AR glasses and 215 inch equivalent »
Called Pocket Go, the Tecno Mobile machine is presented as a “ brand new gaming experience » and let us recognize that this announcement at least has the merit of piqued our curiosity.
The manufacturer mentions the presence of a 0.71 inch Micro-OLED screen for each eye through augmented reality glasses presented as 50% smaller and 30% lighter… but what remains a mystery. More interestingly, Tecno Mobilie specifies that its glasses are the equivalent of a 215-inch television at 6 meters away.
Tecno Mobile also mentions a diopter adjustment of 0-600° – without us knowing very well what that means, if you have an idea? – and emphasizes that the glasses connect via USB-C to the machine. They can thus be connected to other devices.
Immersive 6D and Ryzen 8840HS
When it comes to superlatives, Tecno Mobile does not take it lightly and evokes a gaming experience “ immersive in 6D » due to elements like the “ eye tracking » or the “ sensory synchronization “. Again, it’s difficult to know exactly what the brand means by this.
More precise and more directly understandable, the technical characteristics of the Pocket Go involve an AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS APU, one of the most powerful solutions at the moment. It is supported by 16 GB of LPDDR5 and a 1 TB SSD. We do not have information on the SSD format, but it will be PCIe Gen 4. Classic.
The Pocket Go also seems to stand out for its autonomy. In principle, AR glasses should be less demanding than a classic screen, especially LCD. In addition, Tecno Mobile has opted for a 50 Wh battery. An interesting combo. Presented during MWC 2024 in Barcelona, the Pocket Go does not yet have a release date or launch pricing. Patience.
