Augstein & Blome about Corona
“That really drives me crazy!”
Today Augstein and Blome are looking for a test center. On the way there they argue: Maneuvered and politics haphazardly through this winter or are the worries about the fourth wave caused by scaremongering?
Corona is back: as a topic in the media, as an infection in the population and as a sick person in intensive care beds. In the video column “Gegenverkehr”, RTL / ntv politician Nikolaus Blome and journalist Jakob Augstein initially argue about how seriously the issue should be taken.
“Sometimes I have the feeling that we are scratching the scare tactics,” says Augstein. “The same numbers mean something different today than they did then.” Blome is upset about something else: “The only thing that makes me panic is the clutter and unpreparedness of this government and, by the way, of the subsequent traffic light government, which have not prepared anything for the booster vaccinations.” Only two million people were vaccinated three times, for many millions more are now the vaccination booster. “That can’t work, it really drives me crazy!”
Augstein decides that at some point people will have to take responsibility for themselves. “Everyone is now responsible for talking to their doctor: ‘Hey, by the way, I want to have my third vaccination.'”
“The unvaccinated take the whole country hostage”
Of course, people would have to take responsibility for their vaccination, counters Blome, but the question is whether one can simply say: “I don’t care whether they get vaccinated or not. I don’t care whether they get a third vaccination or not. I’ll get a vaccination, I’m largely safe from this disease, and I don’t care about the rest. ” He thinks the answer to that question is no. “We can’t do that. We can’t say we don’t care.” Because there are still too many unvaccinated people who “even if they don’t infect anyone, could actually overload the hospitals”.
Augstein is not convinced: “I cannot imagine that we will all be sent into lockdown again just because Sahra Wagenknecht does not want to be vaccinated.” Blome is particularly annoyed with people like the left-wing politician. Via the detour via the hospitals and schools, “the whole country is being held hostage for the unvaccinated”.
By the way, the destination of the trip is a test center, but that no longer exists. There’s a bespoke tailor in the shop now. “That is also a sign.”
