Australia will reopen its borders on February 21

SYDNEY (Reuters) – Australia will reopen its borders to fully vaccinated and visa-holding travelers on February 21, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Monday.

Australia closed its borders in May 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It prohibits entry into its territory to foreign tourists and people traveling for family or professional reasons, with the exception of spouses and direct families, its citizens and permanent residents.

“If you are fully immunized, we look forward to welcoming you back to Australia,” Scott Morrison told a news conference.

Australia began reopening its borders late last year, allowing holders of certain visa categories, including students or skilled workers, to enter the country, provided they are fully vaccinated.
