Australian Open final: Ashleigh Barty triumphs as the first Australian in 44 years

Ashleigh Barty is finishing her Australian summer fairy tale. As the first local since Christine O’Neil in 1978, she won the Australian Open in Melbourne thanks to a 6:3, 7:6 (7:2) in the final against Danielle Collins from the USA.

(sda) For the world number 1, it is the third Grand Slam title after winning the French Open in 2019 and triumphing in Wimbledon in 2021. Collins will enter the top ten for the first time thanks to her first entry into a Grand Slam final in the world rankings.
