Australian Open tennis: Djokovic will be opposed to Kecmanovic on condition of not being sent off by then

Novak Djokovic will face his fellow Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic in the Australian Open first round, according to the draw made on Thursday, on condition of not being sent off.

The Serbian, not vaccinated against Covid, is awaiting a decision from the Australian Minister of Immigration who has discretionary power to deport him.

No decision has yet been taken on a possible visa cancellation and deportation of the world number one, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said. The position of Immigration Minister Alex Hawke, who said he was considering whether or not to cancel the visa, “has not changed,” Morrison said.

A court decision issued on Monday authorizes the title holder to remain in the country despite irregularities in the procedure for obtaining his visa.
