Designed in the same mold, the PG16 and PB17 are largely inspired by the latest models of headphones from Austrian Audio geared towards on-the-go listening, but while retaining a very “pro” visual identity. Both models benefit from a metal hoop and hinges, which also allow the ear cups to be folded for easy transport, with a relatively contained total weight of 265 g. The pads of the headband and the circumauricular earpieces take up the classic combination of memory foam + imitation leather. A long flexible gooseneck microphone is attached to the left atrium (nothing indicates whether it is detachable or not), accompanied by a windscreen.

The PG16 and PB17 both connect via a detachable 1.4m cable terminating in a 3.5mm mini-jack connector. However, the supplied adapter differs depending on the model: the PG16 comes with a double mini-jack Y adapter, while the PB17 comes with a mini-jack to USB-A adapter. Small bonus exclusive to the PG16, on the other hand: a code is provided by the manufacturer to use the “Spatial Soundcar L” software suite offering a virtual surround function.

The sonic claims of the two headphones are common: to offer precise, clear, immersive reproduction, and extremely low distortion, all thanks to the performance of the 44 mm Xi-X (High Excursion) driver developed by Austrian Audio, which the found on other helmets from the manufacturer. Here is the published sound technical information of the PG16 and PB17:

  • Headphone frequency response: 12 Hz to 24 kHz
  • Sensitivity: 113dB SPL/V
  • Impedance: 25 ohms
  • Microphone directivity: omnidirectional

The PG16 and PB17 hit the market at retail prices of €139 and €129 respectively.
