Austrian furniture trading group – XXXLutz takes over Lipo furniture stores in Switzerland

Lipo Einrichtungsmärkte AG is one of the five largest Swiss furniture stores. The company operates a total of 23 branches in Switzerland. Now the company is being passed into foreign hands: the Austrian XXXLutz group buys Lipo.

All 635 employees at Lipo will be taken over, according to a media release. In addition to the branches, XXXLutz also takes over the online shop and the logistics team in Derendingen and the service center in Pratteln. Lipo will be continued by the previous management.

The sale was signed at the end of December 2021 and is still subject to the approval of the relevant antitrust authorities. The transaction is expected to close by the end of June 2022. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

With 370 branches in 13 countries and more than 25,700 employees, XXXLutz is one of the three largest furniture retailers in the world. XXXLutz is also playing an important and growing role on the Swiss market.

The group of companies has had its own furniture store in Rothrist since 2018. In 2020 XXXLutz took over the Pfister Group with its 21 branches and in the same year the takeover of the six Interio branches in Switzerland and their conversion into Mömax branches.

The board of directors and management of Lipo are convinced that the new ownership offers an excellent environment for the further development of the company. In this way, Lipo can benefit from strong purchasing expertise and a purchasing platform within the XXXLutz Group.
