Automotive: suppliers will not return to pre-crisis levels in 2023 – 02/12/2022 at 14:59

(AOF) – In 2022, automotive suppliers (equipment manufacturers and tire manufacturers) posted production volumes below pre-crisis levels, which should not be found before 2025. This is confirmed by a study carried out by the bank Lazard and the consulting firm Roland Berger on some 600 companies, which blames inflation, the shortage of chips, rising costs of raw materials and energy. The authors add that the rise in interest rates makes refinancing more expensive and therefore slows down future investments for players in the sector.

The Covid pandemic and subsequent crises set the industry back five years from 2017-2018 levels in terms of revenue growth. In addition, low production volumes, particularly in Europe, have led to structural underutilization of production capacities.

The study predicts that Faurecia, Valeo and Michelin will post lower Ebits this year than in 2021
