The city of Auxerre is at the heart of a controversy this weekend. The public prosecutor was contacted about an alleged “challenge” by the municipal police aimed at dislodging the homeless, present in large numbers in particular, in front of a store in the city center.
It was the municipal councilor Rémi Prou-Méline who first said he was shocked after receiving two photos containing the nature of the challenge launched.

The elected official sent a letter to the public prosecutor of Auxerre. A complaint was also filed for “discrimination”, confirmed the prosecution, Friday, April 15. For his part, the LR mayor of Auxerre, Crescent Marault, reacted to this affair. “There is a real problem in front of the Monoprix, with in particular elderly people who are challenged by people who are sometimes alcoholic. The Auxerrois are fed up, but that does not justify this way of doing things, ”he explained after being contacted by the Auxerre prosecution.
It remains to be seen who is or are the instigators of this challenge aimed at the homeless in the city. Mathieu Debain, an elected opposition member, invited the head of the municipal police, the elected deputy to Security and the mayor of Auxerre to explain himself.
