The Auxerre prosecutor announced on Friday April 15 that he had received a complaint from an elected opposition representative in the city who denounced an alleged challenge launched within the municipal police to dislodge marginalized people from the city center.

“Marginal challenges. If no more in front of Monoprix before April 30. Two photos of the registrations were received by city councilor Rémi Prou-Méline, who says he authenticated them. “It’s quite shocking, (…) unhealthy and discriminatory towards the most deprived people. I have a duty as an elected official to report to the Auxerrois on what can happen within our community.“, he told AFP.
“Facts of discrimination”
The elected official therefore sent a letter to the public prosecutor of Auxerre, as well as to the prefect of Yonne. The prosecution confirmed to AFP on Friday that it had received a complaint “for acts of discrimination“, without specifying whether an investigation had been opened at this stage. The LR mayor of Auxerre, Crescent Marault, indicated that he did not wish to react before being contacted by the prosecution.
His finance assistant, Pascal Henriat, for his part declared to AFP:If these facts are verified, I am surprised and I disavow the method. There is a real problem in front of the Monoprix, with in particular elderly people who are challenged by people who are sometimes drunk. The Auxerrois are fed up, but that does not justify this way of doing things“, he added.

Another opposition municipal councilor, Mathieu Debain, wondered about the origin of such gifts: “Is it the town hall who bought them or certain traders? On this, three people must explain themselves: the head of the municipal police, the elected deputy for Security and the mayor of Auxerre“, he said.
