  • The nature-loving Na’vi are at the center of James Cameron’s “Avatar” films.
  • For Cameron himself, the green message of his projects is very important.
  • With Avengers villain Thanos, however, the director has chosen an unusual role model.

The continued success of “Avatar: The Way of Water” has seen director James Cameron promoting the film for months now. It’s not just about “Avatar 3” and Cameron’s next project outside of Pandora, but also the environmental issues that are omnipresent in the “Avatar” films.

In an interview with Time, “Avengers: Infinity War” was also discussed, where it is the villain Thanos who wants to ensure a world free of resource shortages and famine by destroying half of all living things in the universe. Cameron, who previously opposed the MCU, is clearly on Thanos’ side here.

I can identify with Thanos. I think he had a pretty viable solution. The problem is that no one is going to raise their hand to voluntarily join the half that has to leave.

Cameron, whose power in Hollywood rivals that of Thanos after three of the highest-grossing films of all time, didn’t go quite as far as the purple titan, only stipulating that Avatar 2’s set be vegan-only. While Cameron notes that he rallied the cast and crew and gave them a chance to protest loudly, it never occurred to him that a lot of people just don’t want to mess with James Cameron.
