  • “Avatar: The Way of Water” brings war back to Pandora and introduces us to the Metkayina.
  • Not everyone survives the second part of the 5-part “Avatar” saga.
  • After the film, you can already guess what awaits us in the coming sequels.

While “Avatar – Aufbruch nach Pandora” from 2009 was actually still an independent film, when shooting “Avatar – The Way of Water” it was already clear that several more sequels should follow. Nevertheless, director James Cameron explained that each further “Avatar” sequel also works largely independently, although with overarching storylines, but with its own showdown.

So “Avatar – The Way of Water” doesn’t feel like the unfinished part of a larger story, but like a reasonably well-rounded story with potential for further sequels. Still, after this second “Avatar” story, we have a better idea of how the adventure will continue in “Avatar 3” and beyond.

Avatar 2: The Ending Explained

The finale of “Avatar 2” takes place on the Tulkun hunters’ ship. There, Quaritch is holding Jake and Neytiri’s children captive to lure Jake to him. A long battle ensues, during which the ship sinks and Neteyam, Jake and Neytiri’s firstborn son, loses his life.

In the final battle between Jake and Quaritch, Quaritch sinks lifeless into the depths of the sea, but is rescued by Spider. While Spider doesn’t side with Quaritch and the Marines, since the real Quaritch was his father, he can’t just let Avatar Quaritch die.

After the fight, it’s time for Neteyam’s funeral. Jake reveals to Tonowari and Ronal that he and his family will be leaving the Metkayina, but Tonowari declares the Sullys to be Metkayina and after a visit to the Spirit Tree, Jake realizes that they shouldn’t run away now, they will stay with the Metkayina and there fight together.

Avatar 3: Here’s how

Quaritch’s goal of killing Jake Sully will continue to be the villain’s main driving force in the third film. We now know that his feelings for Spider are his weakness, so maybe Quaritch will try to win Spider over to his side.

Since Quaritch will remain the main villain for all upcoming “Avatar” films according to the current status, the war between the Na’vi and the humans, or their avatars, should run through all 5 parts.

This is not surprising, because everything is at stake for the people. While they only wanted Pandora’s precious Unobtainium in the first film, they now have their eyes on the entire planet as Earth is dying and humanity needs a new home.

Amrita, the Tulkun’s brain fluid, which slows down the aging process in humans, is also likely to play a role in the next few films. Since there are currently hardly any relevant human figures in the “Avatar” films, we will probably only find out later how the existence of Amrita affects humanity.

Although the Sullys are now officially part of the Metkayina, it’s likely that we’ll see more Na’vi tribes on Pandora in the upcoming “Avatar” films. The war eventually spreads, first the humans targeted the Omaticaya, then the Metkayina, but now that all of Pandora is at stake, all Na’vi will have to take up arms.

Kiri is likely to play a key role in the coming battle, as her inexplicable birth and connection to the nature of Pandora and Eywa suggest that Eywa herself chose Kiri to save Pandora.

We already know that the Na’vi will be visiting Earth in the 5th film, but they may visit other nearby planets in the upcoming films. We won’t know for sure until 2024, when “Avatar 3” is supposed to be released in cinemas.
