Avengers – The Kang Dynasty: the creator of Loki in the script of the Marvel film

The game of musical chairs at Marvel continues. While the film Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was without a dedicated director and expected in theaters in May 2026, Marvel finally announced this week that Michael Waldron had been chosen to be the new screenwriter of this future opus of the MCU. We take stock.

Michael Waldron replaces Jeff Loveness (Ant-Man 3), yet announced in September in the scenario. If his name doesn’t ring a bell, you’ve definitely seen his work. He is the creator of the series Lokiand he wrote the screenplay for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Waldron has become in a few years one of the talents to watch at Marvel, and had already been announced when writing the film Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for 2027. Waldron is therefore in charge of the two films concluding phase 6 of the MCU. How to save furniture?

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is however still without a director after the departure of Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi) last month, while filming is supposed to begin in early 2024.

Why so many movements? Due to the complicated situation with Jonathan Majors. The interpreter of Kang, seen in the series Loki and the movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, was supposed to be the future big bad of the Marvel universe, taking over from Thanos. But the actor has been in legal proceedings for domestic violence since last March, which pushed the studios to change their approach to disaster.

The importance of his character was therefore reduced at the end of season 2 of Lokiand it looks like future films Avengers are therefore rewritten to not include it. Rumors say that Marvel wants to replace Kang with Doctor Doom.

The various behind-the-scenes departures, poor box office results and writers’ strike have caused many problems for Marvel and its MCU. Currently, alone Deadpool 3 is scheduled to be released in 2024, and most production has been delayed by a year.

Phase 5 must end with the film Blade in November 2025, then phase 6 must be deployed from 2026 with the films Fantastic Four (April 30, 2025), Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (April 29, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (May 5, 2027), which are the only ones announced for the moment.
