Israel submits catalog of Gaza measures to world court

South Africa sees Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip as violations of the Genocide Convention – and is filing a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice. He is demanding that Netanyahu’s government report on measures to prevent genocide. Now it is available.

Israel has submitted the report requested by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on measures to prevent genocide in the Gaza Strip to the headquarters of the UN court. This was reported by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, citing political circles. The country thus complied with a deadline set by the court. The newspaper did not provide any information about the content of the report.

South Africa had accused Israel of allegedly violating the Genocide Convention during the Gaza war. The UN court had ruled in an interim ruling that Israel had to take protective measures to prevent genocide. It would also have to allow more humanitarian aid for the suffering population in the Gaza Strip. It further called on Israel on January 26 to submit a report on the measures taken within a month.

The main proceedings can take years

Israel strongly denies the allegations of genocide. It invoked its right to self-defense after terrorists from Hamas and other extremist groups attacked southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people. The International Court of Justice will decide on the accusation of genocide as such in a lengthy process that could drag on for years.

Israel’s government is currently being criticized for a planned ground offensive in Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip. Hundreds of thousands of civilians are staying there. The Israeli army recently presented a plan for the evacuation. The military has submitted to the Israeli war cabinet “a plan for the evacuation of the population from combat areas in the Gaza Strip and the further operational plan,” said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office. The Palestinian government based in the West Bank submitted its resignation.
