Best known for its portable consoles, AYANEO seeks to open up new horizons with a collection of “retro” products.

For some time now, mini-PCs have been on the rise and our recent tests of the Geekom MiniAir 11, Geekom IT13 and Xulu XR1 Max will not make us say the opposite.

AYANEO has decided to take the market head on, but with a little something extra to distinguish itself from the many competitors. The brand’s mini-PCs play on the nostalgic chord.

Little reminders about Slide and Flip

To begin her presentation, AYANEO returned to machines that she has already had the opportunity to discuss such as the AYANEO Slide, a portable console equipped with a sliding keyboard (hence the “ slide “).

The brand also returned to the duo of Flip portable consoles, largely inspired by the Nintendo DS and 3DS with this flip system. Two Flips are therefore planned, with the Flip DS which uses the principle of the double screen, even if the second screen seems strangely small. There is also the Flip KB which swaps the second screen for a keyboard.

Alongside these three products, AYANEO revealed a whole new collection that it called “Remake”. At the heart of this range, we find mini-PCs about which all the technical information is missing.

Inspiration taken straight from Apple’s Macintosh and Nintendo’s NES

The AYANEO presentation aimed to highlight the concept of these machines rather than going into detail about the characteristics. So, first of all, it was the AM01 which was unveiled with its design reminiscent of Apple’s old Macintoshes.

This machine already has its crowdfunding pre-page on Indiegogo, but AYANEO does not yet give details on the launch date. As you can see in the dedicated photos and video, the case is a block with a design close to the Macinstochs of the 80s, but we wonder why AYANEO did not go further in the resemblance.

Same thing for the second product in this line, the AM02. It is still a mini-PC and we still have no details on the onboard components although we can assume that AYANEO will still rely on AMD APUs. The AM02 is inspired by the NES console, but again, we are surprised that the resemblance is not more pronounced, as Retroflag can do on its Raspberry Pi boxes.

AYANEO also presented – very quickly – an external battery, still in the Remake range. This adopts a design close to the Super NES console. Finally, there was even more brief mention of a machine called Pocket DMG. This takes the design of the Gameboy, but with something much more modern… even if a certain vagueness still surrounds the machine: no complete image has been presented.
