Gathering ideas for a baby shower can be exhausting. It’s a good thing that we can do the work for you. Our article gives you the best tips and tricks on how to get out of the baby shower – also called baby shower – have an unforgettable experience.

But first of all, it must be clarified what a baby shower actually is. Because this trend did not originate in Germany, but comes to us from the USA. The baby shower is just beginning to establish itself.

What is a baby shower?

A baby shower or baby shower is a party held in honor of the baby. Important: The baby must not be born yet. A baby shower is usually held six to eight weeks before the expected date. A baby shower should not be confused with the well-known baby pee, which is only held after the birth.

It’s called a baby shower, by the way, because the Mother practically “showered” with gifts for the baby will. If you want to know more about the baby shower, check out our article Babyshower: It’s raining presents at this baby shower. Here you can find out everything about the new trend.

Who organizes a baby shower?

In general, a baby shower is organized by the best friend or best friends of the pregnant woman. Usually the best friend takes over the organization and the other guests help her with the organization.

Sometimes the mother-to-be is also involved in the organization. Then of course there are no surprises, but the coming mother can be better addressed. However, most party organizers turn the baby shower into a surprise party.

Beautiful and unique baby shower ideas

If you are planning to throw a baby shower, here are six wonderful ideas to make the party one to remember.

1. Filled Balloons: No baby shower without balloons, that’s for sure. But instead of just filling a balloon with helium, you can also fill in confetti or glitter beforehand. At a surprise party, you could pop the balloons when the mom-to-be enters the room. Particularly nice (but also difficult to implement): Talk to the parents and let the gynecologist tell you the sex of the child. At the baby shower, the soon-to-be mom can pop the balloon and find out the gender of her baby through blue or pink confetti.

2. Painted Bodysuits: At a baby shower, mom is showered with gifts for the baby, hence the name baby shower. How about the baby shower idea that every party guest gives the pregnant woman a self-painted body? You just have to plain bodysuits and buy pens with washable organic paint. Guests can let their imaginations run wild, and if the painting takes place at the party, you can turn it into a fun game. And best of all: mum and child have a lot of unique clothes.

3. Party in the Park: A baby shower is usually celebrated either at the mom-to-be or at the party organizer. But why not go abroad? A park or a lake are also ideal in spring and summer. Simply lay out a few blankets and the party can begin. And you don’t have to worry about running out of space if more guests want to show up. But such an extraordinary location has its price. Here are some things to keep in mind when planning a baby shower in the park:

  • A toilet within reach. The mum-to-be is guaranteed to want to freshen up often, so a nearby toilet is worth its weight in gold.
  • A canopy for sudden rain. You never know. Just a little sun and suddenly it starts to rain. Therefore, it is better to build a pavilion to be on the safe side. It’s not a lot of work and you can take shelter for a short shower if there’s a little shower.
  • Watch out for the trash. A party can create a lot of trash, especially when there are drinks, food, and gifts. Make sure nothing is left in place. And it is best to use biodegradable cutlery and crockery (e.g. made of bamboo). It’s now available in every supermarket.

4. Let the guests pre-cook. Young parents do not have time. You’re too busy breastfeeding, changing, sleeping and looking at the baby. They will be happy if they can just warm up their food. So let each guest cook something for the parents-to-be. This has another advantage: You can examine the sweet baby directly when picking up the fresh storage box. Almost a win-win situation.

5. Extraordinary invitation cards. If you are organizing a baby shower, you also have to take care of the invitations. Special invitation cards are especially sweet at baby showers. How about a card in the shape of a baby bottle, for example? Or a bib? When the mom-to-be is in the know, an ultrasound image can also adorn the card. The color can also give guests an indication of the gender of the baby. Your imagination knows no boundaries.

6. A self-sewn blanket. Similar to the painted bodies, but with a little more work for you. Each guest gets a piece of fabric that they can paint personally. All the pieces are then sewn together by you to create a beautiful and personal baby blanket. The mum-to-be is guaranteed to shed a tear of emotion and the baby will immediately have a nice, warm blanket.

Funny baby shower ideas for games

Games are part of every baby shower. The most beautiful games are of course the ones with a topical connection. City-country flow is ok. Baby-town-country-river is really funny.

  1. Baby Town Country River. Games are very popular at a baby shower. One idea is to play town-country-river, but with different titles. For example with baby names, toys and types of porridge. A game that is guaranteed to be great fun for everyone. In addition, one or the other name idea for the baby can arise from this game.
  2. Try porridge varieties. Another baby shower game idea. Different types of baby food are bought, from savory to sweet. Now the mum-to-be is blindfolded and has to guess the ingredients in each jar. The fruit purees in particular are delicious and relatively simple. But the laughs will certainly come at the latest with the hearty but unseasoned baby porridge. Because they are guaranteed to cause a wrinkled nose (and mum’s realization that the baby should not eat this pap).
  3. empty baby bottles. A game that is guaranteed to put you in a good mood. Buy a large baby bottle and fill it with your drink of choice. This can be milk or juice, but you can also use alcohol. However, you then have to buy a second bottle for the mom-to-be, because of course she is not allowed to drink alcohol. Then a time is set and in turn the participants have to try to suck as much as possible from the baby bottle. That sounds easier than it is, because the hole in the teat is usually very small. For cleanliness, the bottle can be briefly rinsed with water after each use.
  4. Assign baby photos. A cute game that’s guaranteed to have lots of ahs and ohs. Each guest brings a baby photo of themselves. First, all photos are attached to a large pin board. Then each party guest gets a pen with a different color. Then the guests write all their names on slips of paper and match the names to the photos. Whoever guesses the most people correctly at the end wins.

Baby shower: the best gift ideas

For a baby shower it is appropriate to bring a gift for the soon-to-be mother. These are mostly baby items. Parents are happy about everything. Whether consumables such as diapers, wet wipes and baby wound cream or everyday items such as dummy, baby bottles and teethers. And of course any kind of vouchers are welcome.

But if you want to give something more durable for the baby shower, here are a few gift ideas for you.

  1. A baby sleeping bag. Especially in the early years baby sleeping bags a real blessing for parents. Until babies can turn around independently, there is a risk of suffocation from blankets and then they kick and move a lot, which means that they lie uncovered in the bed half the time. A baby sleeping bag is not only for the baby, but also reassures the parents.
  2. A diaper bag. Nappies, bibs, toys, teething ring, drinking bottle, spare clothes, wet wipes, cream: the list of things that parents always have to take with them is long. One diaper bag serves exactly this purpose. With its many differently sized pockets and compartments, there is always order. A useful accessory for every parent couple.
  3. sling or baby carrier. Admittedly, this gift is a little more expensive, but you can also throw it together with other guests at the baby shower. Most babies sleep best close to their parents’ bodies. That’s why a sling or one baby carrier one of the most valuable gifts. In such a carrier, the baby sleeps peacefully even with dad.
  4. clothing of any kind. Surely that doesn’t sound particularly unusual, but every parent couple is happy about clothes. Regardless of whether bodysuits, romper, panties or tights: Babies need a lot of it. It is best to buy a piece of clothing a few sizes larger. Parents often get enough clothing for the first few weeks and months, but after that it gets meager. But of course onesie and bodysuits are also needed nine months later.
