Back to the future: will there be a fourth part?

"Back to the Future" was published 35 years ago. The cult series comprises three parts. Rumors of a sequel have been around for a while.

The science fiction film comedy "Back to the Future" was released in the USA on July 3, 1985, and the film appeared in Germany in early October of the same year. Two more parts followed in 1989 and 1990. The series with Michael J. Fox (59) and Christopher Lloyd (81) in the leading roles as Marty McFly and Emmett "Doc" Brown continues to generate enthusiasm around the world 35 years later. In the middle of the Corona crisis, the makers and the cast met for a virtual reunion in May 2020. It was also discussed whether there will be a fourth part.

Clear announcement of a possible continuation

For his YouTube format "Reunited Apart", actor Josh Gad (39) brought the "Back to the Future" stars together in front of the camera. He also asked about a possible continuation. Lea Thompson (59) alias Lorraine said regarding the current situation: "I would like to see you travel back to January and warn us about the corona virus."

Scriptwriter Bob Gale (69) said: "It would have to be that Doc and Marty find out that we are thinking about making a new 'Back to the Future' film. They come back to stop us, so to do something insane. " And director Robert Zemeckis (68) said: "If I had an idea that I could have seriously told Bob, we would have done it. I have no answer."

Bob Gale had already clarified in an interview with The Times in February: "If it were about money, we would do 'Back to the Future Part IV'. They offered us a lot of money for it. But we already have a lot of money We don't sell our children to prostitution. " There are too many sequels, according to Gale, that were produced years later that make you think, "Oh god, let it go." The "Back to the Future" series has cult status anyway.
