BAFTA 2022: Jane Campion crowned, the remake of an award-winning French comedy

The winners of the 75th BAFTA were unveiled last night, with a ceremony once again open to the public. A year after Chloé Zhao, it’s Jane Campion’s turn to be crowned for The Power of the dog. The comedy CODA is also distinguished.

After an extraordinary ceremony in 2021, without pomp and without an audience, the BAFTAs 2022 were able to be held in a traditional version, with red carpet, audience and named guests in the audience.

This 75th edition of the high mass of the 7th English Art, which took place this Sunday March 13, saw the coronation of Jane Campion who won the two most prestigious statuettes (best film and best production) for The Power of the dog (available on Netflix). Quantitatively, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, the favorite with the most nominations, is awarded the most prizes, including best photo and best music.

No prize, however, for the three French women in the running (Audrey Diwan, Julia Ducournau and Céline Sciamma), nor the chief operator Bruno Delbonnel or the composer Alexandre Desplat. But the remake of a French comedy, CODA (adapted from La Famille Bélier), co-produced by France, created a surprise with two awards.

For the record, in 2021, Nomadland by Chloé Zhao left with 4 awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress.

The Father by French Florian Zeller had won 2 awards: Best Actor for Anthony Hopkins and Best Adaptation, while Emerald Fennell’s feature film, Promising Young Woman, had won the statuettes for Best British Film and Best Original Screenplay.
