The sum was necessary so that the former US president could appeal.
Donald Trump is defending himself against a fine of millions in a fraud case. He would have to pay $454 million. The former US President would have had to deposit this sum in order to be able to appeal. The court recently reduced the amount to $175 million. Trump has now posted bail on time.
Donald Trump’s cash reserves are said to have recently shrunk due to the legal disputes, so depositing $454 million could have become a problem. He already had to post bail of more than $97 million in another case.

This trial is about the fact that Donald Trump is said to have glossed over his assets in order to get better loan conditions for his real estate empire. Donald Trump denies any wrongdoing.
Trump will receive the deposited amount back if he wins the appeal. If the verdict is upheld, the presidential candidate will be due the entire $454 million plus interest. The appeals chamber has said it plans to hear Trump’s arguments in September. No exact date has been set yet.
