Bali wants to let foreign tourists enter again from September

The beaches and temples on the island, which are currently still closed due to the corona pandemic, can then be re-entered, Governor Wayan Koster announced on Sunday.

For domestic tourists, the corona restrictions on the island are to be removed at the end of July. According to the governor, foreign tourists will be allowed to re-enter the island from September 11th. "We have to do our best to deal with the pandemic while at the same time contributing to the good of the community," said Koster. However, it remained unclear whether there will still be restrictions for certain countries in September or whether tourists will be allowed to enter from anywhere.

Restaurants and hotels in Bali hit hard by Corona

Bali is particularly popular with tourists from Australia and China. At the beginning of the year, however, there was a massive drop in tourist flows due to the pandemic; many hotels, restaurants and industrial companies were on the verge of bankruptcy. Indonesia decided to close its borders to foreigners in March to stop the spread of the corona virus.

According to official data, a total of 65,000 corona infections and 3,241 deaths have so far been recorded in Indonesia. The authorities in Bali reported 1900 corona cases and 23 deaths. However, experts believe that the actual number of people infected is far higher in the fourth most populous nation in the world.
