Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie made players happy on Nintendo 64other games emerged then the developer Rare was bought by Microsoft, just like the license. Several members of Rare left the ship to found Playtonic Games and launch the franchise Yooka-Layleestrongly inspired by Banjo and Kazooie.
So, when will the two heroes of the N64 return? Well there is nothing confirmed at the moment, but Phil Spencer does not forget the franchise. In a long interview with Windows Central, the boss of Xbox raised the subject of licenses which he would like to bring back to the forefront :
There must be passion in the team behind the projects. This doesn’t mean the team has to be the original team every time. I’m not the type – and maybe this is just my approach – I’m not the type to come and take a franchise from a team and remove it from the discussion or the development process of how something again is built. I think the original creators, the culture – frankly, some of the lessons we’ve learned from past experiences here are very important. You have seen in our history that we haven’t touched every franchise people would like us to touch – Banjo fans, I hear you. But it’s true that, when you find the right team, and the right opportunity, I like to go back to revisit stories and characters that we’ve seen previously.
Phil Spencer cites in particular Age of Empires And Killer Instinct which he has brought up to date in recent years, but there are still a bunch of licenses sleeping in the cupboards Microsoft, Banjo and Kazooie is part of. The two heroes have been talked about again in recent years when they arrived in Super Smash Bros. Ultimatethe fans were obviously delighted, but a real new new game would be even better!
