Man United embarrassed themselves in the penalty marathon

In the fourth round of the FA Cup, Manchester United is overwhelmingly superior to second division club Middlesbrough – and fails after a penalty marathon. This ends a bad week for Ralf Rangnick’s club in a sporting catastrophe.
Ralf Rangnick suffered a surprise penalty shoot-out defeat with Manchester United. The Manchester United coach and his team lost in the 4th round of the FA Cup against second division FC Middlesbrough 7:8 on penalties after the score was 1:1 (1:0) after 120 minutes. Former Dortmund player Jadon Sancho (25′) scored the lead for the Premier League club after Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty (20′). Second division side Middlesbrough equalized through Matt Crooks (64th), saved themselves in extra time and on penalties. After 15 goals from eleven yards, United professional Anthony Elanga chased the last attempt well over the goal.
With Paul Pogba returning after a break, Ronaldo, Sancho, the most expensive defender in the world, captain Harry Maguire and numerous other top-class regulars, Rangnick had sent a nominal A team into the race. And his team was also overwhelmingly superior, but in the end they had to pay dearly for their usury of chances.
A bad week for Manchester United ends with a sporting catastrophe. Last weekend United’s international Mason Greenwood was taken into police custody on serious allegations of violence and then suspended indefinitely by his club.
The day before the cup collapse, Rangnick first commented on the events surrounding Greenwood, who was a regular at the English record champions until his suspension. “We’ve had a normal, good five-session week of training, but of course it was an issue within the team because they’re only human and Mason was part of the team before the winter break.”
After four days in custody Greenwood has since been released on bail. This was confirmed by the Manchester police after the Manchester United professional because of the Alleged rape, sexual assault and death threats had been arrested. “A 20-year-old arrested on suspicion of raping and assaulting a woman is Released on bail pending further investigations been made,” the police said.
Rangnick has been United coach since the end of November and his team is fourth in the league table, 19 points behind leaders Manchester City.
