Barbie: 11 unexpected first nominations for the film with Margot Robbie

This summer, “Barbie” delighted cinemas, but also the charts. The feature film directed by Margot Robbie is therefore cited eleven times in the nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards, the American Victoires de la Musique.

Let it be said, the race for the Oscar for best song may already be over. After its exceptional success at the cinema (636 million dollars in revenue at the American box office including 9 million spectators returning to theaters thanks to the film, 1.4 billion dollars in revenue worldwide and 5,846,718 admissions in France) , Barbie is now confidently heading into awards season. And before the Oscars and other Golden Globes, it is a musical ceremony which praises Greta Gerwig’s feature film carried by Margot Robbie.

The 66th Grammy Awards ceremony, the Victoires de la Musique across the Atlantic, saw the soundtrack and the singing numbers of Barbie receive no less than eleven nominations. Including five for Billie Eilish alone. Its very beautiful piano-vocal piece What Was I Made For? is cited in the categories Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Song for a Visual Media and Music Video of the Year. A video that the singer also made herself.

Other nominations for Barbie’s (pink) colors include Dance the Night by Dua Lipa (Song of the Year), the essential I’m Just Ken by Ryan Gosling (Best Song Written for a Visual Media) which was almost cut from the film (!), as well as the feature film’s soundtrack composed by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt.

The 66th Grammy Awards will be held on February 4, 2024 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
