The feature film worn by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling has been rated PG-13 in the United States, due to “suggestive references and colloquial language”. Spectators under the age of 13 must therefore have the agreement of their parents to see the film.
The American film classification: how does it work?
Directed and written by Greta Gerwig (and her director spouse Noah Baumbach), to whom we owe Lady Bird and The Daughters of Dr. March, the film is produced by the cinema branch of the games company Mattel. Yet Barbie is not a film for children.
We are far from the animated films Barbie and the Secret of the Fairies or Barbie: Dream of a Star Dancer, even if the film caused a shortage of pink paint in the United States.
The feature film takes place in Barbie Land, a perfect world with perfect inhabitants… Unless you are in existential crisis, or if you are Ken. And that’s what will happen to the character played by Margot Robbie. The latter will then explore the real world, accompanied by Ken (Ryan Gosling).
