Bargain? – Court of Auditors: criticism of the road department

The State Audit Office leaves hardly any good hair on the conduct of the road department. The “Krone” has the report, there is a lot of criticism …

There was criticism, among other things of the mode of selling old appliances. From 2010 to 2021 there were approximately 275 sales with revenues of 1.13 million. How did the sale of trucks, plows, etc. go? Often there was only one bidder because the sale was carried out on the internal bulletin board, just like in the Stone Age. This one buyer paid just 168,000 euros for 69 old devices. Sometimes the bargains were based on faulty appraisals. The settlement was often made in cash or even via an employee’s private account. Another example: a snowplough advertised sale did not go to the best bidder. Although he had already paid in the price of 1380 euros, this snow plow was put up for sale again. The later buyer acquired the snow plow for 550 euros, and from 2018 these sales were handled via the Dorotheum. Suddenly the country was cashing in more. “The selling price for trucks, Unimogs, flatbeds and cars at Dorotheum auctions was four to five times higher than for sales that were carried out in-house.”
