Having no news, his relatives then launched appeals on social networks, in vain. “Thanks to social networks, he was seen walking alone in the Iboat, before being seen around 6:30 a.m. with two girls who were taking care of him, near the Joya, a few hundred meters from the box”, his friend Simon assured France 3 Nouvelle Aquitaine the next day. “It’s not like him to go free without giving any news”added another of his friends to the site Bordeaux News.
An autopsy soon to be carried out
For almost a month, emergency services had been carrying out search operations in the port, as well as through video surveillance cameras. Wednesday February 7, 2024, in Gironde, firefighters and police officers were called around 10:30 a.m. due to the presence of a body, at Bassins à flots in Bordeaux. Found on the surface between a boat and a pontoon in the basin, the remains were quickly recovered. According to France Bleu Gironde, it could be the body of Basile Affret. “Checks are underway to confirm whether the body of the deceased is indeed that of Basile Affret, as a certain number of elements suggest”, specified the Bordeaux public prosecutor’s office in a press release. France Bleu Gironde also announced that papers were found in the victim’s pockets. However, these would not be identity documents. While the public prosecutor has ordered an autopsy to confirm the identity of the victim, the circumstances of the death should also be revealed in the coming days.
