Bastien Vivès case: opening of an investigation for the dissemination of child pornography images

The Nanterre public prosecutor’s office opens a preliminary investigation into the author and two of his publishing houses After the filing of a complaint at the end of December from the Fondation pour l’Enfance association.

An investigation for the dissemination of child pornography images was opened this week against the author of comic strips Bastien Vivès and two publishing houses that published some of his works, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office said on Friday, requested by the AFP.

This preliminary investigation, entrusted to the Brigade for the protection of minors, targets the 38-year-old author, figure of the 9th art, as well as the publishing houses Glénat and Les Requins Marteaux which published three of his works in 2011 and 2018. The investigation was opened after the filing of a complaint at the end of December by the Foundation for Children association with the Nanterre prosecutor’s office.

The complaint specifically targets the works The Mental Dump (ed. The Hammerhead Sharks, 2018), The Melons of Anger (ed. Les Requins hammers, 2011), as well as Little Paul (ed. Glénat editions, 2018).

Bastien Vivès was to be honored with the exhibition “In the eyes of Bastien Vivès”, planned in Angoulême during the Comics Festival, at the end of January. But the direction of the festival announced in mid-December the cancellation of this exhibition, citing “threats” which targeted the author and the organizers. An online petition demanding the deprogramming of the exhibition, launched by Arnaud Gallais, founder of the BeBrave France movement, which campaigns against incest and sexual violence against children, had collected 92,000 signatures the day before the deprogramming.
