Bathers affected – short-term parking zone will become more expensive private parking in the future

Residents of the Bruck Hügel and bathers on the Upper Old Danube will have to dig deeper into their pockets for parking in the future. The short-term parking zone will be converted into a private parking space.

Only recently, the disused construction site for the redesign of the Danube Park caused a stir. Now the next scandal follows. With the introduction of the parking sticker in 2022, after massive protests from the population, the two district leaders of Floridsdorf and Donaustadt had the idea of having part of the Floridsdorfer Bruck pile and the two parking spaces in Donaustadt opposite the bathing area declared an “overlap zone”. Short-term parking zone is over. This meant that motorists from both districts were able to park their vehicles in this area with impunity and without a time limit. This will end in the future – this was the result of a request from the FPÖ in the local council. Accordingly, the smaller parking lot will be converted into a meadow, and the large parking area next to Donauturmstrasse will be handed over to a private parking lot operator for management after the renovation. “It is therefore clear that visitors to the pools and the Donaupark will no longer be allowed to park their vehicles there for free in the future, despite possessing a Floridsdorf or Donaustadt parking sticker. This will result in a lot of additional parking for the residents there,” criticizes former district councilor Hans Jörg Schimanek. MA 42 states: “These measures are urgent because the current use is completely contrary to the intended use. The relocation of the parking lot on Arbeiterstrandbadstrasse/Donauturmstrasse was decided particularly with a view to day use for visitors from other districts and tourists.”
