Batman crossed paths with another great DC superhero in the ’90s series, and you sure didn’t see them meet

Have you ever seen the animated crossover between the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel during the 90s? Learn about their tense encounter and the supervillain who put them in danger.

The Batman series of the 90s was accompanied by a Superman show broadcast from 1997 on Canal+ then France 3. Provided by the same creative and graphic team, the two projects even experienced an unknown crossover.

It begins with episodes 16, 17, and 18 of the Superman animated series, which aired back-to-back in October 1997 to form a unique arc that one could imagine as a feature film. These three episodes will also be combined on the same VHS, then later on DVD, under the title “The Batman Superman Movie”.

Batman V Superman before time

This triple episode is called World’s Finest, a reference to the anthology World’s Finest Comics, which featured (mostly) Batman and Superman adventures. It all begins when the Joker and Harley Quinn steal a kryptonite dragon from an antique store in Gotham City, then kidnap Lex Luthor to offer him the kill of Superman in exchange for a million dollars.

Batman and Superman clash over how to stop the Joker, who in addition to kryptonite has access to LexCorp’s military technology. They will however be forced to collaborate in order to put an end to the actions of the psychopathic clown that nothing seems capable of stopping.

The Joker, Lois Lane and Harley Quinn

After this three-episode storyline, the two superheroes will meet again in episode 2 of season 3 of Superman, titled Acting Hero, in which Robin and the Man of Steel (disguised as Batman!) confront the Hatter madman, the Riddler and Bane, in order to rescue Bruce Wayne, prisoner and manipulated by Brainiac.

Warner Bros. Animation

Clark Kent is…Batman?!

Again, an original story quite convincing and carried out with small onions, as always with the DC series of this time. Meetings between superheroes will continue on a larger scale during the 5 seasons of the Justice League series, broadcast on France 3 from 2002, and perfectly complementing the solo shows of the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel.

To (re)discover urgently.
