Battlefield 2042: an update fixes as many bugs as there are remaining players

DICE, the studio behind Battlefield 2042, has just announced the imminent arrival of version 4.0 of the game. With this patch, the developers intend to fix more than 400 bugs and problems of all kinds. However, it is not certain that this will be enough to encourage players to return, as the attendance of the title fell below the bar of 900 players on Steam this April 13, 2022.

If Cyberpunk 2077 was undoubtedly one of the big failures of the year 2020 (at its launch in any case), Battlefield 2042 easily imposed itself as the great disappointment of this end of the year 2021. The fault of an avalanche bugs, the absence of flagship features of the series such as voice chat or the scoreboard, a complete lack of vehicle and weapon balancing, not to mention the impossibility for console players to deactivate cross-play with players pc.

And again, this is only a sample of the problems encountered by the community. Very quickly, Battlefield 2042 became one of the most hated games on Steam, and players started jumping ship in favor of Battlefield V in particular. In February 2022, an announcement from DICE hit the nail on the head: the game’s 1st season will be pushed back to summer 2022. In fact, no major new content before the summer period.

It’s too much for the players who decide to join forces by the thousands via a petition to obtain reimbursement for the game. Since then, the Swedish studio continues despite everything to update its latest FPS. And justly, the developers have just confirmed the imminent arrival of version 4.0 of Battlefield 2042.

A patch with 400 fixes for Battlefield 2042

According to Kevin Johnson, community manager of DICE, the patch will include no less than 400 patches. That’s almost as many as the number of concurrent players on Steam on April 13, 2022, peaking at 832 players only… If we don’t have the detailed patchnote yet, here are the main improvements brought by this update:

  • Revised weapon attachment stats to make them more impactful
  • Reworked the skills of Specialists Rao and Paik
  • Fixes to Sundance Grenade Belt to improve targeting of close range anti-vehicle grenades
  • Rebalanced XP rewards for support actions to promote team play
  • Easier to unlock ribbons in some game modes, especially Rush

Kevin Johnson assures that these few points only scratch the surface of the Battlefield 2042 update 4.0 and states that the team appreciates “the patience shown by the players” before this patch becomes reality. Version 4.0 of BF 2042 will be deployed on April 18, 2022.
