Battlefield, Far Cry, Twelve Minutes …: these video games released in 2021 should be avoided

Every year there are mind-blowing games for great reasons. And there are those who disappoint. In 2021, the far cry, Call of Duty and other Battlefield have crashed.

Every year, it’s the same story: successful games flood our minds with happy memories, and failed productions make us regret having spent several tens of euros. This article discusses the second category, with an overview of video games released in recent months to avoid.

The most disappointing video games of 2021

Twelve Minutes

A small trend has emerged in the video game production of the year 2021: the developers were obviously very inspired by the time loops. But while The Forgotten City, formerly mod of Skyrim, is successful and that Deathloop did not come far from being elected game of the year, Twelve Minutes got lost on the way. Some cry genius, we preferred to see it as an experience to be avoided because of a flawed concept and, worse still, a simply disgusting twist.

Biomutant

Biomutant is the archetypal game with eyes bigger than stomach. By wanting to be generous too much in order to rise to the level of the tenors, he falls into excess. Too dated to convince, it accumulates flaws: approximate gameplay, technical flaws, poorly mastered overall proposal. Five years ago, Biomutant might have been a great game. Too bad for him.

Outriders

What to remember fromOutriders, title published by Square Enix who had the good idea to be available immediately in Xbox Game Pass? Not much. If there are any encouraging elements (the exhilarating powers to be used in combat), the title drowns in a tasteless narrative and an absence of its own identity. Everything is generic in Outriders, which simply has the merit of offering complete content right away.

Balan wonderland

Balan wonderworld is a bizarre video game that takes a lot, a lot of indulgence to be enjoyed. It was designed by Yuji Naka, one of the fathers of Sonic. The catch? The Japanese designer forgot to evolve and offers an experience far too old school to convince. For example, one-button gameplay in an era when there were multiple controllers is really a bad idea. In terms of ergonomics, it’s complicated.

The Medium

For Xbox gamers, 2021 kicked off with a temporary exclusive: The Medium. Sadly, this horror-tinged narrative game struggled to live up to its status. Between rigid moves, stalled gameplay, and misused potential, Bloober Team’s so-called most ambitious project never invites ecstasy. And the release, a few months later, on PlayStation 5 will not change anything.

Far cry 6

Ubisoft prefers to provoke the anger of players and that of its own employees by launching into NFT rather than questioning itself. Far cry 6 is the symbol: this sixth opus capitalizes too much on the dusty mechanics of its predecessors to pull the saga to the top. Therefore, one has the impression of relying on the same recipe, simply in different environments. The result is a vacation experience, which will eventually appreciate those in search of a vast release from the political accents very poorly assumed (contrary to animal cruelty).

The duo Battlefield/Call of Duty

What if 2021 was the year of the death knell for flagship licenses Battlefield and Call of Duty, at least in their current form? Because we have to recognize that neither Call of Duty: Vanguard or Battlefield 2042 did not convince. The first is based on a laughable single player campaign, while the second accumulates bugs to the point of having missed its launch. Used to winning the votes, the two rivals cough, while Halo finds colors with an episode Infinity much more honest (and that Fortnite keep breaking everything). By pushing too hard the limits of reasonableness and promising mountains and wonders, Electronic Arts and Activision are caught up in reality.
