To the great regret of those allergic to pollen, hay fever is already making its appearance in France. But why did this phenomenon happen so early.
We weren’t expecting it. With falling temperatures, winter has settled in France with its share of illnesses. Gastroenteritis, flu, bronchiolitis, Covid-19… citizens are not spared at the start of 2023. Especially sincea phenomenon that should have happened much later just appeared. Indeed, pollen allergies have already made a comeback, starting in January. And for good reason: the temperatures, very mild, promote the development of alder and hazel pollenalerted the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA).
Because, yes, usually, pollen allergies are triggered from April, or even May, until August. However, tree flowering started much earlier this year. People with allergies therefore already suffer from hay fever. But beware ! This phenomenon is also increased in the northeast of France since it is in fact in this region of France that the first hazel pollens developed the most rapidly.

Pollen allergies: they can be favored by pollution
While pollen allergies affect rural populations, they are also havoc in cities. The reason ? Pollution particles, and more specifically those from diesel, promote the splitting of pollen. Result ? These latter slip even more easily into the lungs. At the same time, pollution also degrades the bronchi and mucous membranes, which makes allergic reactions more frequent and intense.
